Saturdays 9 hole 'Golf Widows' competition was extremely well supported with teams of six going out consisting three golfers, who played from tee to green and three non-golfers, who had the arduous task of 'putting' the little white ball into that minute hole. Some were born to be putters but the vast majority appeared, by their scores, to find it a great challenge but an enjoyable one! Bill Davey's wife Heather had certainly been given some intensive coaching and they dovetailed brilliantly to came in with a magnificent nett 35 to take first prize (on countback) and Heather also took the prize for the competitor with the least number of puts - only 13. They nudged Jack Lee and J Gill into second place, also with a nett 35. Third place was taken my Martin Warren and his partner Julie Bird with a nett 37 and Jane Cannon and Steve Leggett just managed to squeeze into the prizes and took fourth place with a nett 39. The person who had the best value for money on the greens was Kylie Steel playing with Club Captain, Derek Grant who presented the prizes afterward. The whole evening culminated in a 'Hog Roast' in the Clubhouse afterwards which was greatly appreciated and soon devoured by the hungry participants and their family and friends. The senior gentlemen held their Championship day this week but unfortunately, the heavy rain seem to deter many of the regular Tuesday morning participant. But Mike Simpson ignored the conditions and took the Jack Hopper Trophy, the best gross prize and Dave Rushworth took the Past Captains' Trophy for the best nett. The ladies held their Charity AM AM Stableford competition and most were lucky enough to avoid the heavy downpour towards the end of the afternoon. There were some excellent scores but it was the great teamwork of Marian Belton, Holme Hall, Jo Gibbons, Grimsby and her mother Lynn Hattle, Cleethorpes and Trudy Owen Grimsby who took first prize with 82 points and they took it, on a countback, from Barbara Bayliss and Jan Dann, Cleethorpes, Sharon Ely, Waltham Windmill and Di Tovey from Louth. Following closely behind in third place with 81 stableford points, came Margaret Humberston and H Morley from Waltham Windmill, Lorraine Watts, Immingham and Mavis Webster from Cleethorpes. Nearest the pin on the 8th was won by Jane Cannon, nearest the pin on 11th was Chris Holden and nearest the line on 9th was Hazel Dobson. The Lady Captain, Shirley Grant presented the prizes in the Clubhouse after the meal and thanked all those who had helped to make her Charity Day the huge success it had been raising £529 for the Humberston Park Hydrotheropy Pool.
